An experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of temperature on the rate of a chemical reaction. A 1 cm piece of magnesium ribbon was placed in excess dilute hydrochloric acid and the time taken for all of it to react was recorded at different temperatures (results in the table). (Plot the graph on paper.)
- aWhat conclusion can be made from the results? [1]
- bUse your graph to estimate the time it would take magnesium to react if the experiment is conducted at 55 °C. Show your working. [2]
- cState two safety precautions that should be taken during the experiment. [2]
- dState one factor other than temperature that affects the rate of a chemical reaction. [1]
You'll mark your own answer against the marking guide when you hand it in.
